The bananas in my pantry were looking rather brown today, so I decided to look up a banana loaf recipe out of my Great grandmothers cookbook (EGR Cook Book).
This recipe is so simple, so I doubled it and also made some banana muffins with the extra mixture.
My loaf turned out delicious, and the kids have been begging me to let them eat more!
Ingredients
60g/2oz Butter
½ cup Sugar
1 Egg
2 Bananas
½ Teaspoon Baking Soda
1 tablespoons Warm Milk
1 cup Flour
½ cup chopped Nuts (optional)
Pinch Salt
Method
Cream butter and sugar, add egg, then mashed banana. Dissolve soda in milk and add. Lastly add flour, salt and nuts if desired. Bake in moderate oven ½ hour.
Today we celebrated our second born's birth!
Since his brother moved out recently into his new pad (here), we decided as part of his birthday present we'd give his room a wee makeover.
The walls were touched up, shelves added, posters put up and the drum kit he'd been given a while ago that had been stacked in the corner of his room was finally put together and the missing parts replaced. He loves his room - and so do we (and his Dad, aka The Drum Hogger).

We celebrated with both sets of Grandparents at afternoon tea, and a Banoffee Pie for his cake (by request - thanks Nana for making it!).
I.Love.Banoffee.Pie.
The holidays are over and the kids are now back to school. Only 8ish more weeks until the end of school for the year!
These holidays have been full of fun - there hasn't been too much crafting or baking from me with our messy kitchen renovations going on, but we've made sure there has been time for a few play dates and adventures.
Along with new a hair colour there has been a new car, drives to Auckland and Dargaville (despite how it looks, no, tourism Dargaville has not sponsored us as a family to promote their quiet town... we just like going there for the drive and exploring the second-hand stores).
While in Dargaville, certain photos opportunities must be reposed for (see original pic here)...

Plus new ones taken - ones where I hope and pray Symon's back doesn't break (or his shoulder doesn't dislocate)...
Sometimes I sit around the dinner table and am in awe at how quickly my children are growing up - and how funny and witty they are. In the words of Miranda (and her mother), being part of this family is "such fun!".
.
These holidays have been "such fun" as well, and as soon as our kitchen renovations are over I promise there will be a lot more "such fun" creations being made.

Until then, I will leave you with some gorgeous donkeys that we had the pleasure of visiting during the holidays...
Here are a few of the things I'm loving at the moment...
Loving trying to get back into some exercise BEFORE Christmas hits, rather than afterwards like last year. p.s. Boo is not loving it!
.
Loving the cuteness overload when our youngest did a song with her class at assembly recently...
*Warning* Look away now if rat tails make you feel squeamish!
Loving this photo of our girl with Daddy's pet rats...
Loving this recent blog post by Kelly (from Kelly's Korner) about faithfulness versus fame.
End of term dress up fun...
Loving my quick 80's salad - very retro indeed with celery, apples, pineapple chunks and cheese chunks mixed together with dressing. I didn't have too many excited faces with this atdinner time, but I enjoyed it.
Loving getting the chance to visit a baby donkey recently. So soft and cute!
Lastly, loving that this slow adapter, took the risk to try a change with her hair. I've always been a blonde, so deciding to go brown was a bit of a risk but I'm enjoying the change!
Before
After
The great thing about hair is that it can be changed and does grow back! Phew!
Joining in with the loving over here...
I am pretty much sure you are all sick of seeing creations made with my thrifted woollen blanket, but I love it so much and just had to see how it would look if a bit of it was made into a softie rabbit aka Blanket Bunny!
I love it!
I still have quite a bit of my thrifted blanket left, and am starting to feel less guilty for cutting into it as more things are made from it - the beauty of recycled crafts.
So far there has been three cushion covers, a phone cover and a softie made from this beautiful blanket... any more ideas?
