Sometimes the no-fuss birthdays are the best.
I don't know when society decided that a giant party (including amazing goodie bags), delicious cupcakes baked for the friends at school (and a rainbow cake for home) and a stressed out Mum, proved that a child was truly loved.
It's okay to buy pizza for tea and an ice cream cake for dessert.
It's okay not to bake anything to take to school.
Well, that's what I'm telling myself anyway.
Miss 5 had a lovely birthday, celebrated with her close family. I learned that we Mum's can place too much pressure on ourselves... and it felt good to take a relaxed approach this year.
Really good.
Miss 5 announced that it was her best birthday ever!
She also asked me when we were going to have a proper party... tomorrow?
Oh well, maybe next year.

haha...I love that :) I think you're right. I was thinking that this Christmas when I was almost in tears, so tired trying to get it just right. Pizza and icecream cake sounds perfect. Maybe I should make the most of relaxed parties while the girls are none the wiser ;) I'm glad Miss 5 with her beautiful smile had her best birthday ever! xx

ReplyDeleteGood on you! We just invite the immediate family - that's a rent-a-crowd party right there haha - also we always used to do 'big birthdays' for 5, 10, 16 and 18yr (and 21). And on the other ones just choose 1 friend to take out to dinner :-)We always got a cake though :-) (Mum even posted one to me when I lived in Wellington!!)

ReplyDeletePizza is the birthday food of choice around here! Sometimes we order out, sometimes we make our own, sometimes we grill them, and some crazy times we have a make-your-own-with-all-these-ingredients-it-took-me-for.ev.er-to-chop! (that one not so much anymore...)
ReplyDeleteLove can't be measured by size of the party, length of time to bake the cake, or price of the presents. Just having family together is such a blessing!
