Beach traditions...

By PaisleyJade - Sunday, January 24, 2010

With each different beach we visit, there are often different traditions...

Like collecting little books to read imaginary stories from (mangrove seeds)...

Swimming with Daddy (and practically drowning him whenever possible)...

Jumping off the bridge (first time ever for the boys this year).  Of course someone always has to show off a bit...

Finding special treasures on the sand...

Collecting and eating fresh cockles (sea water clams).  My favourite way to eat them is steamed on a piece of white buttered bread with a good splashing of vinegar.

What beach traditions do you have?

  1. We don't live near the ocean, but I would love to!!!!!!!!

The only beach we get to is a lakeside beach and we swim, swim, swim.

I love your beach traditions! The clams sound good!

I am so envious right about now...the beach looks gorgeous, ANY beach, ANY weather warmer than 40 F...I wish I could be there!!!

I, too, love your beach traditions.

  3. Love the beach. We went today but so not summery in Canterbury at the moment...I had on my jacket. The kids still paddled in the water. We love to write in the sand, collect shells, and play "chicken" with the incoming water. x

  4. Don't you just love the traditions that come when having kids and the different way to view things. I guess our tradition is to collect shells that have tiny holes in them so we can later thread them to make necklaces or just a string of beautiful all completely different shells.

  8. There are no beaches near me. Well, there are lake side beaches, but we rarely go to them. It looks like lots of fun. We have been to several beaches when we've traveled to Florida, South Carolina, Connecticut, Maine, etc... but not often.

  9. Our beach traditions are all grab the wetsuits and hunt and dive for the paua :) We collect odd bits of drift wood with no purpose and collect love heart shaped stones. We also love to have beach fires with toasted marshmallows.
